Everything about CO Washing (Conditioner only)

You may have came across the term CO washing while browsing the long hair community forum  or elsewhere, and if you don't know what it means, it's simply "conditioner only" hair washing. It's an alternative method of cleansing the hair and can also be referred to as "shampoo-free washing". This article will help you learn more about this method. So let's start with the first question:

Why Co Washing?
Shampoo can be very damaging to the hair. After all, it's a bunch of chemicals that strip your hair of its natural oils in order to cleanse it, leaving it dry and "unconditioned".
I have noticed that my hair is at its worst right after shampooing. It gets frizzy, unmanageable and very dry. This is the main reason why I switched to CO Washing.

How to CO Wash?
It's simple. You skip the Shampoo, apply the conditioner generously on wet hair, rub it into your scalp then leave it for at least 10 minutes then rinse.

Pros:

-The Conditioner-only method will still cleanse your hair almost as efficiently as the shampoo but without being too harsh on it or stripping of its natural conditioning oils.
-It's great for sensitive scalp. Some scalps can't tolerate the harsh chemicals in Shampoos.
-CO Washing will save you money. No more expensive bottles of Shampoos that claim to do wonders on your hair with their "natural" ingredients. Any kind of cheap conditioner will do.
- Promotes hair growth.

Cons:
- Sometimes you may feel your hair is still a little "dirty" after the CO Washing if you don't leave the conditioner for long enough.
- It takes a while for your hair and scalp to adapt to this method. During the transition phase, your hair will feel greasier.
- It's a  little time consuming. CO washing is not as fast as shampoo, it takes much longer to cleanse your hair.
